While the attention may have been on another Australian MTB race this weekend, the New South Wales Downhill state series continued on from last weekend’s Thredbo Champs. With state points on offer at the Ourimbah club round, a good turnout of riders came out to challenge each other and themselves.
Ourimbah downhill track, located near Gosford on the Central Coast north of Sydney, is a track that may not be as technical, steep and rough as some other NSW tracks but still offers a challenge to ride at pace. Multiple pedaling sections, jumps, high-speed technical features and loose berms can make a challenging track to put together a consistent pace on. A lot of riders, including Blake Nielsen and Joel Willis, opted for shorter travel trail bikes instead of downhill rigs.
With the weather forecasted to be a mix of blue skies and cool temperatures and staying that way, we find out how the day unfolded…

Final Elite Men Results:
1st – Jake Newell 3:23
2nd – Duke Millington 3:26
3rd – Equal Joel Willis & Blake Nielsen 3:28
