While the attention may have been on another Australian MTB race this weekend, the New South Wales Downhill state series continued on from last weekend’s Thredbo Champs. With state points on offer at the Ourimbah club round, a good turnout of riders came out to challenge each other and themselves.

Ourimbah downhill track, located near Gosford on the Central Coast north of Sydney, is a track that may not be as technical, steep and rough as some other NSW tracks but still offers a challenge to ride at pace. Multiple pedaling sections, jumps, high-speed technical features and loose berms can make a challenging track to put together a consistent pace on. A lot of riders, including Blake Nielsen and Joel Willis, opted for shorter travel trail bikes instead of downhill rigs.

With the weather forecasted to be a mix of blue skies and cool temperatures and staying that way, we find out how the day unfolded…

Tyson Richens, putting down a time placing him equal first in U17 Men.
Ethan Corney wraps up another good race result, equal first in U17 Men.
Pacey Stockton, fresh from signing with Lusty after Pat Butler moves on, smashes down a first place result in U19 Men.
Brent Smith, switching it up with an enduro bike as well, just outside top-three pace with a 3:29 and fourth place.
Blake Nielsen, sporting a 140mm travel bike for the weekend, surprising himself with a third place at 3:28.
Joel Willis, also on an enduro bike looked fast all day, as usual, an equal third place with 3:28.
Duke Millington’s just gonna send it. Second place at 3m:26s.
International man of leisure and all round shredder Jake Newell styles it up in practice, later taking first place in Elite Men.

Final Elite Men Results:
1st – Jake Newell 3:23
2nd – Duke Millington 3:26
3rd – Equal Joel Willis & Blake Nielsen 3:28
